Europe 27 - 2nd Prize02/12
On the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union Council during the second half of 2012, the proposal invents a new representation for the EU;
the latter is shown as a rectangle composed by 27 pieces; the countries. In this abstract, geometrical map the emphasis is given on unity and the relation of the whole to its parts. All the countries fit as in a puzzle and give the European Union its complete rectangular shape. The countries are reduced into simple geometric shapes reflecting basic characteristics, relationships and geographical position but quitting further information, therefore mostly becoming pieces of the whole. In different applications of the map, the various countries appear in 7 groups reflecting the different phases of their incorporation into the Union from 1952 till 2007.
